HPC was happy to participate along with the other Port Hueneme Cannabis Dispensaries and donate towards buying 100 beds for the Oxnard Homeless Shelter.

VC STAR STORY EXCERPT:

One hundred new bunk beds were delivered to Oxnard’s temporary homeless shelter Monday morning, paid for largely by neighboring Port Hueneme’s legal cannabis dispensaries.

The beds got strong reviews from the shelter’s residents, who said they are a definite improvement over the air mattresses they have been sleeping on.

“I think they’re wonderful,” said Linda Bassett, 70, who has leg problems and finds it difficult to get down onto an air mattress. “It’s so much easier to get into the bottom of a bunk bed than an air mattress that’s on the floor.”

The idea to buy the beds was planted when Port Hueneme Police Chief Andrew Salinas contacted Mark Alvarado, Oxnard homeless program coordinator, about a photo in a Star article showing the air mattresses on the floor of the shelter at 351 South K St.
